Meet the Team Behind TFS

High School Students Across Canada Uniting To Build A Sustainable Food System

Founders

Jula He

I'm a 17-year-old student at the Toronto French School. From cellular agriculture to precision fermentation, I am delving into innovations that can reshape how we feed the world, and committed to addressing economic factors that contribute to inequality in food distribution.

Jula is also a business enthusiast. She has published an economics book, targeted at children aged from 10-16 to promote an early understanding of how economics can be applied to the world around us. She also founded a digital marketing agency aimed at helping nonprofits and companies in education and healthcare boost their impact or profits. In addition, she has previously interned at PwC in the data analytics team and worked on consulting projects for companies including Walmart and Mastercard Foundation.
Shirley Yang

I'm a 16 year old student at Abbey Park High School and an activate student at TKS. I'm really interested in business, AI and the future of food. Hoping to spread financial literacy, I am currently the National Events Officer at FBL Canada.

In my free time, I love reading, playing soccer and going on long bike rides. The reason I founded TFS is my passion for educating the youth. One of the biggest parts of our lives is the food we eat and it often goes overlooked. I want to change that. Which is why we created TFS.

Besides researching technology, I am an avid tennis player, swimmer, and linguist, who is learning Korean, Chinese, and Spanish.

As a driven Grade 12 student with a deep passion for Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and Math, I'm thrilled to be attending the University of Waterloo's Systems Design Engineering program this fall. Through my interdisciplinary expertise in technical skills, strategic thinking, and optimization, I'm excited to tackle complex challenges and engineer innovative solutions that positively impact the world!

Regional Team

Our goal

At The Food Society, we're a group of high school students from the GTA, dedicated to tackling food waste head-on. With our passion and determination, we aim to make a real difference in our community. Join us as we work towards a future where wasted food becomes a thing of the past."

Our team is structured to make a direct impact on food waste. Comprised of two essential components, we have our Tech Team and Organizational Team. The Tech Team pioneers innovative projects aimed at revolutionizing how local communities and restaurants handle food waste. Leveraging cutting-edge technology, they develop solutions to streamline processes and minimize waste. On the other hand, our Organizational Team focuses on the logistics and expansion of our initiative. Their efforts ensure smooth operations and help us extend our reach to more communities. Together, these teams work in harmony towards our common goal of creating a more sustainable future by combatting food waste.
